For the past few months, we've built a routine around layering with serums and moisturizers to accommodate the cold weather and combat dry, itchy skin. We are now saying goodbye to the cold weather and welcoming warmer temperatures. But with the change in humidity and sun exposure requires adjustments to your skincare routine. Here are some ways to transition your routine to achieve a healthy skin glow.
Exfoliate | Remove Dead Skin Cells
If you aren't already doing so, it's a go for incorporating exfoliation to slough away dead skin, unclog pores, and brighten despite the time of year. Exfoliating promotes healthy skin, by removing the build-up of dead skin cells left over during the natural process of cell renewal. Without exfoliating, your skin results are dull and rough in texture.
Exfoliation can be added using a dry brush to gently remove dead skin cells from your dull winter skin. In conjunction, it supports your lymphatic system by stimulating the normal lymph flow to help the body detoxify itself naturally.
You can also use a body polish that stimulates skin cell turnover that results in smoother, glowing skin. Be careful not to overdo it. We recommend exfoliating with a body polish no more than two times a week.
Double Cleanse | Gentle Deep Cleanse
Double cleansing removes dirt and excess oil. This two-part process begins with cleansing using an oil to break down makeup and dirt from the day. The initial cleansing lifts the dirt and grime. The second step is followed by a water-based cleanser that washes away the dirt while addressing your particular skin type or concerns.
Moisturize | Use A Lighter Moisturizer
During the winter months, heavy creams and oils are a must to reduce water loss. Not so much now. Instead, you have our permission to swap out your moisturizers for something lighter that contains a water-based formula.
Can you still use oils?
Yes, but opt for oils that are light, non-greasy, and easily absorbed.
After toning, use a serum rich in antioxidants and layer with a cream or oil to lock in moisture.
Protect | Use Sunscreen
Sunscreen should be a part of your skincare regimen year-round. If you have been skipping out on using sunscreen, do away with this habit. Sunscreen is an integral part of your skincare routine despite the time of year. The only change is a lower SPF is suitable for winter but should be increased to a SPF of 50+ with broad-spectrum protection for adequate sun protection.
Apply sunscreen after your moisturizer to ensure that you are receiving the most protection.
Spring Cleaning | Get Rid of the Old
It would be fair to say, now is an opportune time to extend your spring cleaning to your beauty and skincare products. Get rid of outdated washcloths, sponges, and applicators. Cleanse make-up brushes weekly with hand soap and air dry or use a blow dryer. All of these are hoarders of bacteria, mold, and viruses that contribute to acne and infection.
Anything that is past its expiration date should be discarded. You can always find those dates on the back of your packaging with an open jar symbol signifying the number of months the product is good for after it is first opened. If you can't locate an expiration date, implement a sensory test. If it doesn't smell, feel, or look the way it did when you initially purchased it, then chunk it. A good rule of thumb is no more than 6 months.
